Before I began freelance proofreading, I worked for a translation
company in Reading, UK, where one of my main tasks was to proofread
documents translated from other languages into English. Prior to
that, for several years I typed and edited both graduate and post-graduate
dissertations, often for clients whose first language was not English.
Though British-born and educated, since 2001 I have been based
in the USA, which has enabled me to become thoroughly familiar with
the differences between British and American English. This will
be useful to you if you also need to localize British English documents
intended for a US audience, or vice versa.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Russian Studies from Reading
University (UK).
With an excellent command of English and a substantial knowledge
of five other languages (Danish, French, German, Russian and Spanish),
plus a practical understanding of the obstacles that face professionals
who are not native English speakers, I am well placed to proofread
documents written by consultants and other authors whose first language
is not English.
